There are a bazillion things I love about Los Angeles, but the top of that list has to be the number of people who are devoted to providing the best of everything to their beloved cats and dogs. During my last visit, I met many amazing people who truly wanted to learn more about a holistic diet and lifestyle for their furry children.
The reason for that visit was to host two “Living Room” events. Basically small, intimate lectures in private homes about species appropriate diets, the advantages of holistic foods, what the ingredients in pet foods really are (and how they are sourced) and other nutrition facts and myths. The response was overwhelmingly positive. One of the great honors was when Dr. Patrick Mahaney, an integrative veterinarian whom I admire very much, attended one of the events. We talked for a while and decided that doing some public events together would be fun! Before I even left, I was plotting my return.
Also while I was out there I walked into the Whole Foods Market in Tarzana (OMG – this store is amazing – like a city block long – and there is even a wine bar inside!) and introduced myself to the marketing manager, Jennifer Haigh. When I told her I am a Holistic Nutrition and Wellness Specialist for Pets and could show people how to make homemade food for their cats and dogs, she loved the idea of having an in-store event. We had the details worked out within a week.
Once back home in South Florida, I contacted Andrew Kim, the owner of Healthy Spot in West Hollywood (on Dr. Patrick’s suggestion). What a warm, kind, knowledgeable man! He liked the idea of Dr. Patrick and me offering a ‘class.’ He introduced me to Jordan Vaine, who is in charge of in-store events, and it all came together quickly.
So, here are the details for both events:
